About

Our purpose

The Foundation for Business Students in Aalto University (KY Foundation) aims to further the societal, social, professional and intellectual goals of students in the Aalto University School of Business, as well as those related to studying and the student life.

KY Foundation brings the student body together and implements its mission by financially supporting the students’ leisure activities, cultural and sports events, as well their studies and the prerequisites thereof. Overall, the foundation works to be the enabler of the KY community and we work towards ensuring that Aalto University’s business students can enjoy the best student experience for years to come.

History

As Aalto University and Aalto University Student Union were founded, KY’s status as a student union was retracted. KY as an association started its operations on the first of January 2010, and during the first years, KY searched for its place in the new union and looked for new directions. During the same year, KY Foundation began operating to provide financial support and other resources for students and associations.

Today

KY Foundation ensures that the KY community is able to thrive even after the student union years. It offers annual grants and subsidies to the KY community totalling over €600,000 per year, which is distributed to different clubs and associations that provide students with activities, services, and leisure. In addition to this, KY Foundation provides students and KY’s associations free space to operate and organise events. The independent Kylteri-magazine is also published by the KY Foundation.

Student-led decision making

Since the KY Foundation has such a big role in the KY community, it is important that students are also the ones calling the shots. Decision making in the KY Foundation is led by the executive board and its Chairperson Aino Piipponen. The board consists both, student and advisory members. The advisory members are top professionals in their fields of asset and real estate management and help ensure that the Foundation’s assets are managed in the best possible way.

To ensure the Foundation keeps the students’ best interest at heart, the Board is overseen by the Supervisory Council which is made up of KY Association’s representative council members.
